We are here to help you succeed in tech by providing the mentorship and guidance we wish we had when we were starting out.
Our Story
My name is Doug Farmer, and I’m an experienced engineering leader with over 10 years of experience, working at some of the top companies in the industry like Oracle, Under Armour, and Facebook. I’ve been both an individual contributor (IC) and manager, and I’ve also built my own product company. Over the years, I’ve been a part of startups and major corporations, leading teams and creating products.
I started this coaching business because when I was just getting started in tech, I didn’t have the mentorship I needed. I had to figure it all out on my own, and while I was fortunate in many ways, not everyone has the same opportunities. I was lucky to stumble into engineering, lucky to be interested in it, and lucky to have a knack for problem-solving. But I don’t believe success in tech should be based on luck. The benefits of working in this industry are too great to be left to chance, and that’s why I want to help others navigate this path with more support and guidance than I had.
Our Mission
Our goal is to fill the gaps that I had to solve on my own. We believe that everyone, regardless of background, should have access to the opportunities that a tech career provides. We are especially committed to increasing diversity and representation for people of color in the tech industry, ensuring that these opportunities are available to everyone.
You don't have to code to work in tech. Unless you're particularly interested in it, you probably shouldn't. There are so many path ways to succeed in this field and our goal is to help you find the right one for you.

Why EvalX?
The name EvalX has deep roots in both mathematics and computer programming. X is the canonical variable used in mathematics, representing the unknown we’re always trying to solve for. Eval is short for evaluate, which reflects what we aim to do: evaluate the many variables that make up who you are and guide you in the right direction to achieve your goals.
In computer programming, evaluation is a function that takes input and returns a value. This perfectly mirrors our approach: you come to us with your unique background, skills, and aspirations, and we help you evaluate your potential, providing the guidance and mentorship to unlock the value hidden within you.
